Tibetan rugs are renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship, unique designs, and cultural significance. Handcrafted by skilled artisans in the Tibetan plateau region, these rugs are often made using traditional weaving techniques passed down through generations. Typically, Tibetan rugs feature intricate patterns inspired by Tibetan art, culture, and nature, with motifs such as lotus flowers, dragons, and geometric shapes prevalent in their designs.
One distinguishing feature of Tibetan rugs is their use of high-quality wool sourced from Himalayan sheep, known for its softness, durability, and natural sheen. The wool is hand-spun into yarn, dyed using natural pigments derived from plants and minerals, and then meticulously woven into the rug using a vertical loom.
Tibetan rugs are known for their thick pile, providing both warmth and comfort underfoot. They often come in a variety of sizes, from small accent rugs to large area rugs, suitable for different spaces and purposes.
